Re: Developing a New Galileo Shield

Hi everyone,

I wanted to look for your input on one of the ideas I have for the Galileo shield.  In order to support a variety of modules available from SparkFun, Adafruit, etc, I took a sample of various sensor modules available and determined that it might be a good idea to provide some large headers that have programmable settings for each pin.  I'd like to provide the following for each pin:

- PWR (3.3/5V)

- GND

- NC

- IO to FPGA

However, doing this for every pin on the header is expensive as the logic to drive these selectable pins is about $2/pin, which gets pretty pricey.  Not to mention that some of these modules have analog data, so they need to interface with ADCs as well.

What are your thoughts?  Do you think we should provide programmable pins?  Is there another way to do this?

Thanks for the input!

Matt
